Shawnee, KS – Tuesday’s noon filing deadline for candidates came and went with no changes in the dynamics of the race for District 18 in the Kansas House of Representatives, except now the race is certain – John Rubin, a former Federal administrative law judge who also served as a Navy JAG Corps officer and Federal agency attorney, prosecutor and litigator during his 32 years of public service, will be the Republican candidate in the general election.
“I am grateful that I will now be the Republican nominee for this seat. The lack of a primary opponent means that people are embracing my candidacy and believe my experience, judgment, and message of principled reform in Topeka will prove victorious in November,” said Rubin.
Leaders in the Kansas House were enthusiastic about the likelihood of Rubin joining them there next January. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Mike O’Neal (R-Hutchinson) said: “I am delighted about the prospect of John Rubin serving the people of Kansas in the Legislature next year. His impressive legal and judicial experience and expertise will prove invaluable, and will be particularly welcome on the Judiciary Committee, one of the busiest and most vital committees in the House.”
House Majority Leader Ray Merrick (R-Stilwell) added: “I am thrilled to see someone of John’s impressive legal and judicial background and judgment as the presumptive Republican nominee for the 18th District House seat. I am confident that he will represent his constituents and the citizens of Kansas with diligence and distinction, and I look forward to welcoming him into the House of Representatives next year.”
It is that experience and expertise that Rubin, a former Federal judge, is campaigning on as he goes door to door. “I believe that the people of Shawnee and Lake Quivira want what I want and can deliver on – a studied, thoughtful approach to limited government, personal freedom, economic development, fiscal responsibility, local control of education, secure borders, immigration reform, and enforcement of the rule of law. As such, I am confident they will stand with me in November.”
John’s candidacy has also been heartily endorsed by Johnson County Republican Committee Chairman Scott Schwab and Treasurer Marvin Kleeb, themselves both candidates for House seats this year, and by Committee Secretary Brad Seitter as well.
District 18 includes most of north-central Shawnee, as well as Lake Quivira. The uncontested primary election is August 5, and the general election is November 4.
